State of the Diaper Bank
This year has been a year of changes for The Haven of Rest Ministries. We moved to our 3rd location in 4 years, increased our supervised visitation program and upgraded the diaper bank to include hygiene items for everyone, including period products! We were upgraded from a rural distribution site to Affiliate status with the Diaper Bank of the Ozarks! This was a major achievement! We also restructured how families picked up their supplies and how many diapers they could have. This has led to some major changes for The Haven in terms of supply, demand and financial needs.
In 2017 The Haven served 42 families, including 3 foster parent families, giving out 5,100 diapers and 199 packages of wipes.
In 2018 things look very different. We served 82 families, including 5 foster parent families, gave out 20,130 diapers, 1215 packages of wipes, 198 packages of period products, 15 Newborn Kits worth $100 of layette items, boppy pillows, diapers, wipes and other newborn necessities, and many more hygiene items, formula, blankets, and hats. We also more than tripled our budget due to moving to the new location which has caused such a dramatic increase in use of the facility. We also had to ask for community help outside of our yearly diaper drive for the first time ever.
Our largest needs this year are size newborn, 4, 5 and 6 diapers, wipes, basic hygiene items for babies, children, women and men (yes, dad’s need help too!) and financial donations. In years past we have had consistent funding from several sources. This year we are losing some of those funding sources due to no fault of our own. Our expenses are estimated to be around $18,000 this year due to the change in location. We need your help to make our bills every month!
Please consider becoming a monthly giving partner, a one-time donor, quarterly giver or some other pattern which suits your budget. Attend one of our monthly game nights which start in February and donate while you are there having fun playing cards or a board game. When we have a fundraiser during the year, please help us out and give what you can.
The community needs The Haven. The dramatic increase in families served and product leaving our facility show that moving to a new location was the right choice. We are more accessible than ever and people are coming more often and new families are coming for the first time.
